Students can apply for post Matric scholarship till Nov 25: Ranike
Chandigarh, November 21, 2014: Giving a big relief to the students of SC category to avail the benefit of post Matric scholarship, the Punjab government has extended the date to submit application till November 25, 2014. Students can apply online through ‘Ashirwad Portal’ for the scholarship.
It was disclosed by Gulzar Singh Ranike, Welfare Minister, Punjab. He said that earlier November 7, 2014 was the last date for the students to register themselves but some of the deserving students could not apply for the scholarship scheme. He said acceding to the demand of the students now the government has extended the last date till November 25. He said that students can now apply online on the Ashirwad portal for the post Matric scholarship for the year 2014-15.
The Minister said that the state government has disbursed Rs.330 crore to 2,18,323 students during 2013-14. He said that Punjab Government for the year 2014-15 has sent the proposal of Rs. 687.54 crore under the post Matric scholarship to SC students to the GoI which included the backlog of 2013-14. He said that Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry of GoI after approving this proposal have sent Rs. 376.87 crore.  He said that out of the funds released by the GoI Rs. 149.67 crore pertains to the Financial Year 2014-15. He said that this is for the first time that the state government has received 50% advance funds for the current financial year. “The funds for the year 2014-15 would be disbursed in transparent manner after receiving the complete data on the portal.” he said.
Seema Jain, Secretary Welfare Department, Punjab further said that 3,05,290 students of SC category have already applied on the Ashirwad Portal till now for the year 2014-15. She said that under this scheme students studying in 1884 Government and 2915 Private educational institutes would be benefited.
