Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Panjab University today organised an exposure visit taking its Masters degree course students to Society for Rehabilitation of Mentally Challenged (SOREM) in Sector 36-C, Chandigarh.

Chandigarh October 23, 2024: Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Panjab University today organised an exposure visit taking its Masters degree course students to Society for Rehabilitation of Mentally Challenged (SOREM) in Sector 36-C, Chandigarh. 

Prof. Namita Gupta, Chairperson, Centre for Human Rights and Duties scheduled the field visit to SOREM, which is an NGO, specialising in early intervention programs preparing children for inclusive education with special needs. The Principal and Executive Director of SOREM, Sangeeta Jain, a Trained Autism & Vocational Studies Specialist passionately discussed with the students in a sensitised human rights discourse urging them for academic exchanges & awareness projects towards the noble cause of special education. 

Sangeeta, inspired the students for greater mindfulness in the society for knowledge dissemination towards, developmental and intellectual disorders like Autism, Cerebral Palsy and Down’s Syndrome, which largely go unnoticed and suppressed in the society. Along with educational and vocational educational modules, the students were also apprised of the NGOs’ on-site manufacturing, marketing and sale for multifarious Diwali hampers and products like handmade chocolates, candles, organic masala powders & honey, decorative bags, baskets which are being showcased at various Diwali exhibits around the city. The same are handmade by the Children enrolled at school with special needs and are going to be available at Chandigarh Carnival being exhibited on the 25th October, at Leisure Valley in sector 10, Chandigarh for the Diwali exhibit. The Masters students and Research Scholars, Gurdeep Singh, Manavjeet Malik and Alka were accompanied by Dr. Kanika Sharma, Guest Faculty.
