Students of PCM S.D. College successfully complete "30 Days Environment Challenge"
Students of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar achieved great feat of finishing the 30-days environment challenge initiated by National EduTrust of India. The event was executed by Eco Club of the college, which has been working under the guidance of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF & CC), Govt.of India and the State Nodal Agency, Punjab State Council for Science and Technology.
Jalandhar, September 7, 2024: Students of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar achieved great feat of finishing the 30-days environment challenge initiated by National EduTrust of India. The event was executed by Eco Club of the college, which has been working under the guidance of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF & CC), Govt.of India and the State Nodal Agency, Punjab State Council for Science and Technology.
In this challenge, students indulged in various tasks dedicated towards environment protection. The tasks were grouped in to four broad themes, each for one week. First theme was "Waste Reduction and Management" in which participants performed waste audit, learned to reuse and recycle old products as well as composting basics, etc. In the second theme of "Energy Conservation and Efficiency", they worked to reduce energy usage by doing energy auditing, vehicle pooling, switching to LEDs and the like whereas in the third week of "Sustainable Eating and Consumption", they were encouraged to reduce food wastage, avoid packaged food, buy local and have more plant based and sustainable food items. In the last week dedicated to "Water Conservation and Advocacy", participants not only did efforts such as taking short showers, plugging leakages, smart gardening, etc. but also voiced their thoughts about environmental concerns and promoted the cause of sustainability.
On the whole, this was a very rewarding journey for all those who were involved in the challenge i.e., participants as well as entire Eco Club team of the college, as it increased awareness of pressing environmental issues as well as understanding of simple and feasible solutions that are easily available. The event also gave a boost to the creative side of the students through tasks like DIY cooking, re-cycling, etc. The students performed all the tasks with great enthusiasm. President of the governing body of the college, Sh. Naresh Budhia Ji, Senior Vice President, Sh. Vinod Dada Ji, other respected members of the Managing Committee and Principal, Dr. Pooja Prashar appreciated the hard work of all the participants, Nodal Officer, Dr. Divya Budhia Gupta as well as other faculty members involved in the Eco Club for successfully guiding the students through this challenge.
