SUPREME COURT ORDERS & RULES REGARDING BULLOCK CART & DOG RACES SHOULD BE FOLLOWED STRICTLY: DEPUTY COMMISSIONER
Ludhiana, October 18, 2018: Deputy Commissioner Mr Pardeep Kumar Agrawal and Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry Department Dr GS Toor have clarified that as per the orders of the Supreme Court of India issued on May 7, 2014, there has been a complete ban on bullock cart races. They said that as per information received from the Social Media as well as the respectable members of the press, bullock cart and dog races are being organised during rural sports festivals in some villages of Ludhiana district. They informed that the dog races can be organised only under the supervision of Punjab government’s managing committee and following of strict rules formulated by Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals under section 3(2) of Prevention of Cruelty to the Animals (Establishment and Regularisation of Societies for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Rules 2001). Mr Agrawal and Dr Toor has appealed to the organisers of these rural sports festivals to follow the rules and remain vigilant regarding bullock cart and dog races. They stated that there is a complete ban on organising bullock cart races. They said that violation of any of the orders and rules would attract strict penal action.
