Ludhiana, September 16, 2018: In view of the ‘Swachh Survekshan 2019’, the Municipal Corporation Ludhiana is all set to better its ranking and for this purpose, it has prepared a detailed plan. Efforts are being made to educate the city residents about various ways in which they can keep our city clean. Today, awareness rallies were organised in different parts of the city where the residents pledged to shun the use of plastic carry bags, segregation of dry and solid waste in different coloured garbage bins, besides several other measures to maintain cleanliness in our city.

MC Joint Commissioner Dr Poonam Preet Kaur informed that several Resident Welfare Organisations (RWO’s) and NGO’s have come forward and have assured the Municipal Corporation Ludhiana for taking various steps that help in maintaining cleanliness in our city. She said that the residents were educated the ways in which they can manage their wet and dry solid waste in their homes.

She informed that wet solid waste includes cooked or uncooked food, bones, egg shells, flowers, vegetables, waste of vegetables, wastage of plants, used toilet papers, paper towels etc and they should be kept in green coloured garbage bin. Similarly, dry solid waste includes old newspapers, copies, cardboard and cardboard boxes, used tetra packs, plastic waste, wooden waste, old and discarded clothes etc and they should be kept in blue coloured garbage bin.

Today, rallies were organised in Guru Ramdas Colony in Sector 39, Model Town D Block, Fatehgarh Mohalla, Moti Nagar, etc. Dr Poonam Preet Kaur informed that several Municipal Councillors also attended the rallies.

Mr Ashwani Sahota informed that people were educated that they should not litter, put dry and wet garbage in different coloured garbage bins, shun the use of polythene bags and instead use jute bags or self made cloth bags.

Banners related to Swachh Survekshan 2019 have also been installed on different unipoles in the city.

Dr Poonam Preet Kaur has directed all the MC officials to start working in the field so that Ludhiana’s rankings in Swachh Survekshan 2019 gets better. She also urged the city residents to assist the MC Ludhiana regarding this.
