Switch For Change Foundation and Ludhiana District Administration organise Punjab's First Ever Plogathon on World Environment Day
In a landmark event celebrating World Environment Day, Switch For Change Foundation and the Ludhiana District Administration organized Punjab's first-ever Plogathon today at 6 am. The primary motive of the event was to promote environmental awareness, support the Clean India and Fit India movements, and emphasize the need to care for both our health and the planet's health. The motto of the event was "Your Waste is Your Responsibility."
Ludhiana, June 5, 2024: In a landmark event celebrating World Environment Day, Switch For Change Foundation and the Ludhiana District Administration organized Punjab's first-ever Plogathon today at 6 am. The primary motive of the event was to promote environmental awareness, support the Clean India and Fit India movements, and emphasize the need to care for both our health and the planet's health. The motto of the event was "Your Waste is Your Responsibility."
The event was organized in collaboration with the main partner, Avon Cycles, and supporting partner Uttam Foods. Refreshments were provided by Bonn, Amul and Verka. The Plogathon commenced from Verka Milk Plant, moved through BRS Nagar and Municipal Corporation Zone D, and concluded back at Verka Milk Plant.
Khalsa College for Women, AIESEC, Marshall Aid Foundation, and Punjabi Runners were the institutional partners, while Hulladek served as the e-waste recycling partner. The Garden Grille also participated as a partner.
Plogging, a unique initiative that combines jogging with picking up litter, underscores the dual benefits of improving personal health and contributing to environmental cleanliness.
Over 200 enthusiastic participants took part in this pioneering event and about 800 kg waste was collected. The winner Bhupinder Singh collected about 10 kgs and was given an Avon Cycle as a prize. The first runner up was Arunjeet Singh followed by Punit Watts.
Additionally, Ludhiana's first e-waste center was inaugurated today through a joint collaboration between Hulladek and Switch For Change. The collected materials were taken to Switch For Change Foundation's RRR center for segregation and were then sent to respective recycling partners.
The Chief Guest for the event was Ludhiana's ADC (General) Major Amit Sareen.
This initiative marks a significant step forward in fostering a cleaner, healthier environment in Ludhiana and sets a positive example for the rest of Punjab.
