Talk-cum-presentation on theme “gender sensitization and legal rights for women and child”
Jalandhar, December 12, 2019: Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar organised a talk-cum-presentation on the theme of “Gender Sensitization and Legal Rights for Women and Child”. Mr.Amarjit Singh Bhullar, District Programme Officer Jalandhar from Department of Social Security, Women and Child Development was the Chief Guest and speaker on the occasion. College Principal DrGurpinder Singh Samra welcomed the chief guest with a bouquet of flowers and speaking on this occasion appreciated such programs as the need of the hour for creating a much needed awareness on matters concerning gender and children. Dr. G.S. Samra also applauded the initiation taken by both the cells of the college and highlighted gender inequality as an evil that plagues the society at all levels. Chief Guest Mr.Bhullar emphasized that gender is not to do with one’s biology, but with the social construction of a boy and a girl. Citing various examples, he effectively put his point that we need to think ‘beyond blue and pink.’ He emphasised that the need of the hour is to create a more equal world. While deliberating on legal and fundamental rights of an Indian citizen, he also dwelled on the government schemes for achieving gender equality and emancipation of women. Grievance Redressal Cell in collaboration with Legal Aid Cell of the college took the responsibility to organize the event at two different places: Boys’ and Girls’ hostel. Dr. Gagandeep Kaur, Convener Grievance Redressal Cell; Dr. S.S. Bains, Convener Legal Aid Cell, Prof. Arunjit Kaur, Prof. Jaswinder Kaur, Dr. Jaswant Kaur, Dr. Manmeet Sodhi, Dr. Upma Arora, Prof. Satpal Singh, Prof. Priyank Sharda, Prof. Gurpreet Singh, Prof. Devika Gandhi were present on the occasion.
