Dr. Jatinder Kumar Bajaj, a Padma Shree awardee of the year 2022, delivered a talk entitled “Reflections on a multifarious career” at the Department of Physics, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Chandigarh, March 7, 2024: Dr. Jatinder Kumar Bajaj, a Padma Shree awardee of the year 2022, delivered a talk entitled “Reflections on a multifarious career” at the Department of Physics, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Dr. J. K. Bajaj reminisced about his days in the Physics Department long ago in the 1970s and reflected on his multifarious career that led him from an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics to explorations that required studies in philosophy, economics, demography, history and geography, etc., with the motivation to understand diverse facets of the current situation of India. In his talk, Dr. Bajaj shared his thoughts on looking at things from an Indian perspective or rather as he mentioned “Indian way of doing Science”.
He spoke about how his knowledge of Physics and Science led to the establishment of the Centre for Policy Studies in Chennai. The Centre's extensive body of work delves into various facets of contemporary Indian society, emphasizing its historical and civilizational roots. He narrated the seminal work of the Centre "Annam Bahu Kurvita" through which Dr. Bajaj and his colleagues advocated for a return to traditional practices of food production and sharing. Additionally, he spoke about their research on Religious Demography which urges attention to maintaining demographic balance for social harmony and cultural continuity.
