Telangana State Sailing Championships Day 2
Sisters Deekshita and Lahiri Komaravelly from Rasoolpura lead the Telangana State Sailing Championships at Hussain Sagar Hyderabad 2023.

India No. 1 Deekshita Komaravelly shot up to overall first popping younger sister Lahiri who was leading the fleet with a hat trick yesterday. 

The Komaravelly sisters from Udbhav School Rasoolpura Hyderabad district are leading with a clear gold and silver between them at the State Sub Junior Championships at Hussain Sagar. 

The girls are tied at 17 points but a discard is allowed after 7 races and Deekshita pips her sister by just one point. 

Tomorrow will be a day of reckoning for the rival sisters. 

Both are top seeded in the state and Deekshita is currently India No. 1 too. 

Bindu Rathlawath from Shaikpet Govt School,  representing Mahbubnagar district is lying at third girl with her best performance ever and a likely first bronze medal at a State Championship. 

Banny Bongur of Vikarabad leads the boys followed by Vinod Dandu of Mahbubnagar both are leading the boys but lying overall third and fourth. 

The winds were still light at about 5 to 6 knots and the Junior category sailing the Lasers completed 3 races. 

Junior National Champion Vaishnavi did not disappoint and topped the fleet with two clear wins and beating all the boys by a significant margin. 

“With 59 entries this is one of the largest State Regattas in Telangana “ said Dadi Bhote the President of the State sailing Association. 

Tomorrow is the last day of the regatta with the grand prize giving at 5pm at the Yacht Club of Hyderabad.
