DC reviews procurement and lifting of wheat in district
Nawanshahr, April 20, 2022: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa on Wednesday said that the lifting of the wheat crop from Shaheed Bhagat Singh (SBS) Nagar district is set to be expedited with ten special trains have been deployed by the railway ministry.
Presiding over a meeting with senior officers of administration and heads of procurement agencies to review the procurement operations, Randhawa that 26000-MT wheat would be transported through these trains in next few days from various grain markets of the district.
He said that the entire procurement and lifting operation has been going on in a smooth and hassle free manner.
Randhawa told that the administration has sufficient stock of the gunny bags and there is not any shortage of storage space. He asked the officials to clear the grain markets immediately so that farmers do not face any problem in bringing their crops there. He told them to personally supervise the operation in the markets in their jurisdiction.
He said that during the ongoing Rabi season, the district is expected the arrival of 2.30 lakh-MT wheat and so far till today, 1.18 lakh MT wheat has already been procured in the various grain markets. Likewise, the Deputy Commissioner said that so far payment worth Rs 179.69 crore has been made to the farmers.
