Sony SAB recently launched the third season of its most iconic superhero franchise Baalveer. This season focuses on Baalveer’s journey his rise and fall. The new edition is tailored to cater to viewers of all ages, with a focus on family-friendly content, top-quality visual effects, and impressive stunt work.
Opening about the new season, Dev Joshi talks about his character, the storyline of the new season and what more the viewers can expect.
1. As the show has returned with its third season, what do you think makes Baalveer stand out among other superhero characters in the country, and why do viewers love him so much?
Baalveer is an Indian superhero, and the show takes a lot of inspiration from India's culture and values. I think that Baalveer is special because it connects our beliefs to the modern world with technology. The character represents important values like truth and justice, and the way that he fights bad guys is different from other shows, which makes people really like it.
2. What changes are the viewers witnessing in Baalveer’s character in this season compared to the previous ones?
The love that Baalveer receives from his fans is due to the well-crafted character that we have built throughout various seasons. Although the plot and supporting actors may change, it is crucial to maintain the Baalveer’s heroism and virtues, as the audience has formed a strong emotional bond with him. In season 3, we are excited to explore new territory and introduce Baalveer to unprecedented difficulties that will uncover fresh aspects of his personality.
3. What is the most challenging aspect of playing a superhero character on television?
The most difficult part of portraying a superhero character on TV is developing a show. It demands extensive efforts from a team of people working towards a shared goal. Nonetheless, television offers an opportunity to connect with a dedicated audience more frequently, using its message and positive influence to impact their daily lives directly.
4. Can you share any memorable experiences or moments from your time on the set of Baalveer?
Playing this character for over a decade now has led me to create cherished memories with many people. As a considerable portion of my life has been spent on the Baalveer sets, it is impossible to count the priceless moments I have experienced here. I will forever be grateful for this opportunity that came my way as Baalveer has been a learning ground for me where I learnt significant professional and life skills.
5. How has playing Baalveer impacted your career and personal life?
Baalveer's optimistic persona has touched the lives of numerous people, changing them for the better. As for me, the character has become much more than just a role to play. As an actor, it has helped me understand the responsibility that comes with portraying a certain character and how staying positive can have a profound and widespread impact on viewers. It fills me with immense satisfaction to be recognized as a superhero by people wherever I go, realizing that I have played a small part in making the world a better place to live in.
6. Have you taken any special training/coaching or done something different to prepare for this season of the show?
Undeniably, it takes a great deal of effort to bring a character like Baalveer to life. Regular practice of martial arts and a healthy diet are critical for meeting the physical demands of the role. And equally important is embodying the charm and aura of Baalveer, for which I need to stay positive, happy, and cheerful on the set. I consciously make an effort to develop a positive mindset during shoots, that further helps me to embrace my character more fully.
7. Are there any similarities between your own personality and that of Baalveer?
As an individual, I draw many parallels between my personal identity as Dev and my character as Baalveer on-screen. We both display a similar set of instincts, attributes, and characteristics that interlink our roles. Through our shared experiences, both Dev and Baalveer have learned and developed a deep connection that surpasses the boundaries of the screen. Although I do not have Baalveer's superhuman abilities in my everyday life, I endeavour to bring joy to people's lives, whether it be through my acting work or merely in my interactions with others as a person.
8. What message do you hope to convey to the viewers through your portrayal of Baalveer?
Baalveer sets a positive example for individuals in society. Although we may not possess his superhuman abilities, we can attempt to emulate his characteristics of courage, self-assurance, integrity, and compassion for others. As human beings, we all confront a struggle between our internal Baalveer and the malicious force within us when making crucial choices. Ultimately, the decision we make can have a significant impact on our lives and the lives of those in our surroundings.
