The International Seminar on 'Contemporary Punjab: Politics and Society'
The International Seminar on 'Contemporary Punjab: Politics and Society,' the second in the Punjab at Crossroads series, is being organized by the National Institute of Panjab Studies, Bhai Vir Singh Sahitya Sadan, New Delhi, in collaboration with the Department of Political Science, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, on November 19-20 at Panjab University.
Chandigarh, November 18, 2024: The International Seminar on 'Contemporary Punjab: Politics and Society,' the second in the Punjab at Crossroads series, is being organized by the National Institute of Panjab Studies, Bhai Vir Singh Sahitya Sadan, New Delhi, in collaboration with the Department of Political Science, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, on November 19-20 at Panjab University.
PU Vice Chancellor Professor Renu Vig would give the presidential address, former Chief Secretary of Punjab, S. Ramesh Inder Singh would give the inaugural address and Prof. Rana Nayar, a well known former professor of English of the University, would be keynote speaker. Senior journalist, editor in chief of The Tribune Group of newspapers will speak as the Chief Guest at this star studded inaugural session of the seminar.
Politics, society, education, emigration, Dera politics and media are sub themes of the six sessions. Well established experts are making presentations from India & abroad. The seminar is held in hybrid mode & it will be streamed live. There will also be online participation in the seminar.
Prominent names among those who will be online are Professor Mark Juergensmeyer from University of California, Professor Sucha Singh Gill from Brampton & Professor Itesh Sachdev from University of London. Nine serving or retired PU teachers are either speaking or chairing at the seminar. Valedictory session would be chaired by senior academic & administrator Professor S.S. Johal.
Professor Harish Puri & Dr. Swarajbir would speak at the session.
The Round table at the end of the seminar aims to discuss the insights of both the series of the seminar & suggest ways forward in dealing with the economic, socio-political impasse the state is facing.
