The philosophy of Yajna is that of well-being of all : Prof. Alankar

Panjab University’s Sanskrit department concluded its seven-day workshop titled ‘Vaidika Agnihotra : Vidhi tatha Mahatta’, today on 30.8.2023. The purpose of the workshop was to make the participants aware of the concepts and philosophy behind the ancient tradition of Agnihotra as well as train them in the performance of the same. Participants of this workshop included the teachers, staff members, research scholars and students of the department.

Chandigarh August 30, 2023: Panjab University’s Sanskrit department concluded its seven-day workshop titled ‘Vaidika Agnihotra : Vidhi tatha Mahatta’, today on 30.8.2023. The purpose of the workshop was to make the participants aware of the concepts and philosophy behind the ancient tradition of Agnihotra as well as train them in the performance of the same. Participants of this workshop included the teachers, staff members, research scholars and students of the department.
 

Academic in-charge of the department Prof. V. K. Alankar congratulated participants for successful completion of the workshop. He said, “the philosophy behind Yajna is the well-being of all, and by ordaining various kinds of yajnas, our ancient sages had intended to ensure that all beings live in peace, prosperity and attain the highest goals of human life.” He also congratulated all on the Sanskrit Divas. While remembering Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati’s contribution to the revival of the ancient rituals of Vedic sages, Prof. Alankar said, “we are celebrating 200th birth anniversary of Maharshi Dayanand Sarawati who, at the time when superstitions were very prevalent, took up the task to revive the ancient practice of Yajnas and instruct people in them”.
 

In the workshop, faculty member of the department Shri Vijay Bharadwaj instructed participants in the performance of the agnihotra ritual. “It is a matter of great satisfaction that all participants, especially students have attained a good command over the ritual”, said Bharadwaj.
 

All the participants were enthusiastic about performing the agnihotra ritual. The workshop was concluded with a prayer for the peace and prosperity of the whole world.
