Chandigarh, September 27, 2024: The Department of History at Panjab University hosted a thought-provoking book discussion on Dr. Ashish Kumar's seminal work, "Beyond Borders: Indo-Sasanian Trade and Its Central Indian Connections (Circa CE 300-700)", published by Palgrave Macmillan as part of the esteemed "Palgrave Studies in Ancient Economies" series. This groundbreaking book challenges conventional wisdom by shifting focus from the Roman factor to the significant Indo-Sasanian interactions in long-distance economic networks, with trade as its central pillar.

The discussion was enriched by insightful contributions from distinguished experts, including Prof. Himanshu Prabha Ray, Research Fellow at Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies and series editor, who commended Dr. Kumar's rigorous research and nuanced analysis, setting a new standard for studies on ancient economies.

Additionally, Prof. Mahesh Sharma and Prof. Renu Thakur from Panjab University highlighted the book's pioneering significance in reevaluating traditional history writing narratives.

Presided over by Dr. Jasbir Singh, Chairperson of the Department of History, and attended by over 90 participants comprising faculty members, research scholars, and students from various departments, the event fostered a vibrant academic exchange, culminating in a formal vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Priyatosh Sharma.
