Chandigarh, January 22, 2025: The Centre for Public Health, Panjab University today hosted a thought-provoking talk on "India 2047: Can Viksit Bharat Thrive Without Devouring the Planet" by Maneesh Juneja, a globally recognized Planetary Health Futurist and founder of MJ Analytics Ltd.
Juneja emphasised the challenges India faces as it moves toward development by 2047. While digital health and economic growth offer transformative opportunities, they come with environmental costs. Advanced technologies like AI, rapid urbanisation, and over-medicalisation contribute to rising emissions, loss of biodiversity, and health risks such as pollution-related diseases and microplastic contamination.
The discussion called for shifting from sustainability to regeneration, urging a return to indigenous practices like cultivating traditional crops and adopting eco-friendly architecture. Dr. Manoj Kumar, Chairperson, Centre for Public Health, stressed the
importance of reducing pollution, embracing green technologies, and addressing health challenges through informed decision-making.
The event inspired students to envision a future where economic growth aligns with ecological balance, blending innovation with ancient wisdom.
