Bathinda, September 12, 2023: The Central University of Punjab, under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, organized the inaugural session of a three-day Workshop on Advanced Microscopy on Tuesday. The Central Instrumentation Laboratory at CUPB hosted this event in collaboration with Evident Scientific (Olympus)/DSS Imagetech Pvt. Ltd., aiming to provide practical training and insights into advanced microscopy techniques.

The inaugural session began with a warm welcome from Prof. Raj Kumar, Incharge of CIL. He highlighted that the workshop would offer participants an overview of cutting-edge techniques, allowing for a deeper understanding of advanced microscopy methods. Attendees will receive hands-on training on advanced microscopy equipment and the opportunity to analyze their research samples. Out of 75 registered applicants, approximately 33 were selected to participate in this workshop.

Prof. Anjana Munshi, Dean of the R&D Cell, emphasized in her opening remarks that the workshop would enlighten participants about the applications of various advanced microscopy equipment, including confocal microscopy, electron microscopy, and fluorescence microscopy. These insights are expected to inspire participants to conduct high-quality research in their respective fields. She also praised the CIL team for providing participants with access to their sophisticated instruments.

The first day of the workshop featured two invited talks by Application Scientists from M/s Evident Scientific (Olympus)/DSS Imagetech Pvt. Ltd., Dr. Sebastian Raja and Dr. Anirban Bose. They discussed topics related to light microscopy and the fundamentals of confocal microscopy. Following the lectures, participants received hands-on training on advanced fluorescent microscopes APEX 100/VS 200/FV1200.

The Microscopy Workshop covers a diverse range of topics, including Introduction to Microscopy, Advanced Microscopy Techniques, Sample Preparation, Image Analysis, and Hands-on Practical Sessions.

Dr. J.N. Babu, Programme Coordinator, stated that the workshop's lectures would offer a fresh perspective on both fundamental and advanced fluorescent microscopy techniques. He applauded the efforts of Dr. Sumeer Razdan, Dr. Rabindra Kumar and other members of CIL for smooth execution of this programme. He gave formal vote of thanks at the end of inaugural session.

Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Dean Student Welfare and Workshop Advisory Committee Member, graced the inaugural ceremony with his presence and extended best wishes to participants.
