Ferozepur, December 11, 2018: Three persons have been arrested by the forest guards deputed at Harike Bird Sanctuary who were allegedly killing the migratory birds by poisoning them. Giving details, Kalpana K, DFO (Wildlife) Ferozepur said that on Sunday evening at around 4 pm, three persons identified as Raman and Sarvan and Varinder all resident of Sultanpur Lodhi were nabbed by the patrolling team. “The members of the patrolling team nabbed these accused while they had killed 19 migratory birds namely Coot and Northern Shoveler in the Mand Kambo area in the sanctuary by poisoning them. During the preliminary investigation, it was revealed by the accused that they were going to consume these birds for eating. However, we will be able to ascertain only after the postmortem that what kind of poison is used by them”, said DFO Kalpana.
“All the three accused were booked under Wildlife Protection Act 1972 and were produced in the court today. Keeping in mind such activities in the restricted area, we have formed special patrolling teams which will intensively guard the area especially during migratory season to curb illegal activities”, said DFO.
