Dharamshala, April 17, 2023: Today several organisations of exiled Tibetans and local people came together to hold a massive rally from McLeodganj to Dharamshala. The rally was in response to the alleged viral video case of a Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, and a child.
Protesters marched from McLeodganj, carrying placards and shouting slogans, until they reached the Kachehry Adda Lower Dharamshala. They demanded an apology from certain media channels for their poor portrayal of the spiritual leader and spoke out against those who questioned the Dalai Lama's religious authority.
Gonpo Dhundup, president of the exiled Tibetan Youth Congress, spoke out against China's attempts to tarnish the image of the Buddhist leader. He claimed that the viral video was part of a planned effort to discredit the Dalai Lama. Despite these efforts, millions of followers in the country and abroad remain steadfast in their support of the Dalai Lama.
Later in the evening, the Central and Regional Tibetan Women's Association held a protest prayer and candlelight vigil at McLeod Square for the well-being of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. The rally and vigil were powerful displays of support for the Dalai Lama and his teachings.
