Ludhiana, September 21, 2012: Trained Nurses’ Association of India (Punjab State) today organised XXIV (24th) TNAI Biennial (73rd) Punjab State conference at Dumra Auditorium, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana.

The theme for the conference was, “Quality Clinical Practice: Nurses’ Concern”.

More than 500 faculty of nursing, M Sc and post basic B Sc nursing students (trained nurses) from different parts of the Punjab participated in the conference. Students of college of nursing, DMCH presented vibrating welcome dance.

Dr. Daljit Singh, Principal, DMCH, Ludhiana formally welcomed the gathering.

Chief guest Dr S C Ahuja, Former Principal, DMCH lightened the lamp and inaugurated the conference. In his inaugural speech, he said that a nurse needs to be committed to the core values of this noble profession, which include professional expertise, human dignity, integrity and selfless concern.

Further, he described the profession of 'Nursing' as a challenge as each day you are helping someone and one kind word could brighten a patients day, Trained Nurses’ Association of India is a professional body of Nurses founded in 1908 under the Societies Registration Act, no XXI of 1860. It provides a platform to address the grievances of nurses and helps in the development of nursing profession. It is headquartered at New Delhi and having branches all over India. The Punjab state branch of TNAI is positioned fourth with 18,373 members. Sister branch of TNAI the student nurses association is also operational in 100 colleges of nursing and 127 schools of nursing in Punjab.

Dr. Jasbir Kaur, President TNAI, Punjab State unfolded the theme of the conference. She accentuated on providing quality nursing education to improve the quality of nursing care. She mentioned that the basic principles of nursing care are simple and highly effective such as maintenance of hygiene, good nutrition, prevention of cross infection and meticulous monitoring with compassionate attitude in handling the patients. Use of new technology, critical thinking skill and evidence based practice has provided new horizon to the quality of nursing care.

G.K. Walia, Secretary, TNAI, Punjab State presented the report of TNAI Punjab state branch. She highlighted that 5 workshops were held in one year and 15 scholarships of 5,000 each were distributed.

Prem Gupta honorable secretary, DMCH managing society hosted the honoring ceremony of the conference. Dr. Kanwaljit Kaur Gill, Patron TNAI Pb State Felicitated state awards to the selected TNAI members for the contribution to the Nursing.

Prem Kumar Gupta conferred Student Nurses Association scholarship to 15 nursing students (1 M Sc, 5 B Sc, 5 GNM, 2 PB B Sc and 2 ANM).

Sawinder Kaur, Chairperson, Socioeconomic Committee, TNAI Punjab State presented the vote of thanks to the dignitaries.

On this occasion a panel discussion was organised on Theme: Quality clinical practice: Nurses’ Concern by faculty of GTB Institute of Nursing, Ludhiana. Poster competition was also organized on various themes related to nursing.

Prize to winners of poster competition in various categories were given away by president and secretary TNAI, Punjab state branch and they will be sent to National conference of TNAI to be held in Bhopal. Colors to the conference were added by Gidhha, Bhangra and cultural programme by host branches of Ludhiana district.
