To boost English communication skills, Education Dept to form English booster clubs

Ferozepur: To boost English communication skills among its students from class 6th to 12th, Education Department has come up with a novel initiative of forming English Booster Club (EBC) at all levels starting from schools, blocks, district and state level.

In a zoom meeting held with Education Secretary Krishan Kumar on October 10, District mentors and block mentors of English subject held a brainstorming session on how to promote English communication skills among the students studying in government schools. It was decided to form booster clubs which would motivate the students for English speaking through various activities like recording videos, audios, group discussions, monologues etc. to boost the speaking skill.

While informing about the need of setting up booster clubs, DM English, Ferozepur Gurwinder Singh, said that the people choose private schools for their wards primarily because of English communicating skills, which would become a staple part of government schools in Punjab. These booster clubs will help the department realise the goal of enabling the government school- students speak English in a natural way.

Guided videos, audios, sentences and phrases would be shared by the state groups at all the government schools in the state and the students will be motivated to reproduce the given content in their own style and own voice. The objective is to shed the inhibitions of the students and start speaking English through accomplishing the given tasks.

The booster groups would motivate, monitor and analyse the stuff sent by the students. In the first phase, three students per sections would be made to join the booster clubs but later on all the students will join the clubs to streamline the English-speaking tasks for all the students.

District Education Officer Kulwinder Kaur said that district team of English mentors will look after the tasks assigned to the students and the district mentors, with the help of the teachers, will motivate the students to communicate in English. This will definitely boost enrolment in our schools and the public will begin to think high of the government schools.
