“Punjab has lost one of its smiles”, remarks his friend

Ludhiana/Jalandhar, October 25, 2012: “Ulta Pulta” fame renowned comedian, actor and satirist Jaspal Bhatti (57) died in a road accident near Shahkot in Jalandhar district in the wee hours on Thursday.

As per the details, Bhatti's car collided with a tractor-trolley while he was on his way from Bathinda to Jalandhar.

The accident occurred at around 2-30 p.m.

The ill-fated car was being driven by his son Jasraj when the accident occurred.

Jasraj has worked as an actor in the Jaspal Bhatti’s latest film "Power Cut".

The film’s actress Suril Gautam was also travelling in the car. Besides, the film’s promoter Navneet Joshi was also travelling in the vehicle.

Jaspal Bhatti was declared brought dead in a private hospital at Jalandhar.

The other injured are undergoing treatment at DMCH, Ludhiana.

Bhattai alongwith others was to address a press conference at Jalandhar on Thursday. He was also supposed to launch music of his film today on the occasion.

Jaspal Bhatti had produced and directed his latest film "Power Cut", in which he was to launch his son, Jasraj.

Bhatti, an engineering graduate from Chandigarh, had been a popular face on television and Bollywood films with his comedy shows and other appearances.

He got tremendous popularity with his television programmes "Ulta-Pulta" and "Flop Show" way back in 1980 and 1990.

Bhatti had also directed a film "Mahaul Theek Hai", a satire on the police, administration and society, in 1999. This film had achieved a tremendous popularity among people and specially comedy lovers.

Reacting over the Bhatti’s tragic death, Ludhiana-based architect Sanjay Goel, said,” My friend Jaspal Bhatti has died. I am sad. Engineer turned actor made us laugh a lot many years with his ultimate skills. I had dinner with him in Chandigarh few months back. Punjab has lost one of its smiles”.
