Tragic fire incident claims lives of over 40 people in North Delhi

New Delhi, December 8, 2019: More than 40 labourers have lost their precious lives and many others injured in a major fire broke out in a factory in Anaj Mandi area of North Delhi on Sunday morning.

It was 4-storey ill-fated building where sudden fire brike out in early hours of this morning. The fire broke out on the 2nd floor of the building, which got spread within seconds.

About three dozen fire tenders were put into service to douse extinguish the fire.  About 150 fire personnel were seen carrying out the rescue operation. They were succeeded in saving lives of 63 people. These lucky people were brought out of the building, which was located in a congested area.  Even the rescue team members have to face difficulties in carrying out the rescue operation in the congested lanes.

Two fire personnel have also sustained injuries during the rescue operation. People were seen standing on rooftops of the nearby buildings to watch the rescue operation and ill-fated building engulfed in the fire. A huge rush of people had also gathered near the spot. The persons died and injured were taken to three hospitals namely RML, LNJP and Hindu Roa.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Government has ordered a probe into the tragic incident. An ex-gratia of Rs.10 lakh each has been announced for the next of kin of those killed and Rs.1 lakh for those injured.

Reacting to the today’s tragic incident, the Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has termed it as a “tragic news”. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has termed the incident as “extremely horrific”. He has wished a quick recovery for the injured. The Home Minister Amit Shah has also reacted terming the incident as “tragic loss of precious lives in the fire accident in New Delhi”. Shah has also expressed his deepest condolences with families of those who have lost their loved ones. “I pray for the early recovery of the injured”, he further tweeted today. He added that he has instructed concerned authorities to provide all possible assistance on urgent basis.
