Training on makhana processing for farmers organized at ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana

Ludhiana, December 27, 2018: In recent years price of makhana has increased due to increase in demand from domestic as well as foreign markets. Makhana presently is processed by traditional method which is laborious, time, consuming and causes injuries to the processor’s hands as it involves handling of hot roasted nuts manually. Keeping in view the need of farmers ICAR-CIPHET Ludhiana has developed makhana processing plant and organised 03 days training (26-28 December 2018) for eight farmers from district Saharsa, Bihar. On the occasion Dr. R.K. Singh (Director, CIPHET) distributed the hand tool for roasting of makhana designed and developed at CIPHET Ludhiana. The developed hand tool is very useful in roasting of makhana, prevent hand injuries and ergonomically suitable for makhana growers. Dr. Ranjeet Singh, Sr. Scientist has facilitated the event and imparted hands on training to farmers.
