Ludhiana, November 21, 2014: Punjab Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute organized a 5-day training programme on “Post-Harvest Management for Agri. Produce” from 17-21 November for the State extension functionaries from Agriculture, Horticulture and Dairy Development Department. During this training, they were exposed to post-harvest techniques and value-addition options for various crops such as cereals, pulses, fruits & vegetables, milk, meat & fish produce, sugarcane, fodder and flowers etc. Dr H.S. Dhaliwal, Director PAMETI interacted with the participants and explained about various stages of post-harvest management and on-farm marketing options through Road Side Display (RSD) model.

About 10 per cent agriculture produce and 25-40 per cent  horticulture produce goes waste every year because of poor post-harvest handling and management He said. Various experts from Punjab Agricultural University,  GADVASU and PHPTC, Ludhiana explained the post-harvest techniques and answered the queries of the participants. In all, 25 extension officials from different districts of the state had participated in this programme and highly appreciated the programme.
