Training programme to empower women farmers with advanced maize silage cultivation techniques
In a significant step towards enhancing the livelihoods of farmers through the promotion of silage maize a one-day training program was successfully conducted. This initiative, led by the ICAR-Indian Institute of Maize Research (ICAR-IIMR), Ludhiana, saw the participation of 100 progressive farmers from the Satluj Women Farmers Producer Company.

This initiative, led by the ICAR-Indian Institute of Maize Research (ICAR-IIMR), Ludhiana, saw the participation of 100 progressive farmers from the Satluj Women Farmers Producer Company.
The training program aimed to empower these women farmers with advanced maize silage cultivation techniques, particularly focusing on silage maize and Kharif maize. Dr. Pradeep Singh, Dr. Seema and Dr. Romen Sharma from ICAR-IIMR, Ludhiana, emphasized the importance of maize-led crop diversification in Punjab and highlighted the opportunities created by the government's ethanol blending targets, which can significantly boost maize cultivation in the state.
He also expressed gratitude to Dr. H S Jat, Director of ICAR-IIMR, Ludhiana, for his guidance and support in implementing the program.
Manpreet Singh from Grant Thornton Bharat, Ludhiana, shared insights on adopting best practices to optimize crop yield with minimal expenditure, ensuring profitable crop inputs.
The event was organized in collaboration with Grant Thornton Bharat and the HDFC Parivartan Project. The success of the program owes much to the collaborative efforts of Jasvir Singh, Sakshi Jain and Manpreet Singh of Grant Thornton Bharat LLP.
