PEDA, which was created in 1991, has been designated by the state as the State Designated Agency responsible for spearheading energy efficiency efforts to identify and oversee energy conservation Programmes, including those mandated by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency.
The primary objective of conducting these workshops is to promote awareness by conducting capacity building training workshops under Agriculture Demand side Management Programme for various stakeholders in the state.
The agriculture sector accounts for approximately 80 percent of India’s total water consumption and pumps are the most vital element of the irrigation purposes. Along with expanding the area of irrigation, pumps also help to regulate the water flow. As a result, farmers have become more dependent on pumps for their irrigation needs. Awareness on energy efficiency measures/practices among farmers / technicians / stakeholders is one of the major keys to induce energy efficiency in the agriculture pumping sector. Therefore, it is essential to build the capacities of stakeholders like officials of DISCOMs, state agriculture department and farmers for energy efficient practices related to pump sets operation & maintenance, electricity supply improvement etc.
Two more such workshops will be held in collaboration with PSPCL at Jalandhar and Bathinda in coming days. It is pertinent to note that organizers have followed all protocols to prevent spread of covid.
