TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT ENSURES HASSLE FREE MOVEMENT OF ESSENTIAL ITEMS IN AND OUT PUNJAB: RAZIA SULTANA
Transport Minister chairs high level meeting to take stock of the working of the department in view covid-19
Chandigarh: ‘The Punjab Transport Department has been leading from the front in the war against Coronavirus. The department has coordinated with the other state government with full precision to ensure the hassle free movement of goods in and out of Punjab. This is the reason that there is no shortage of any essential commodities in the state. This also ensured that there was no price rise of these items in Punjab.’ It was disclosed by Mrs. Razia Sultana, Transport Minister while presiding over a high level review meeting of the department at Punjab Civil Secretariat.
The Transport Minister in a press communiqué said that the meeting was held to take stock of the working of the Department in view COVID-19 pandemic. She appreciated the role of Transport Department and its officers who coordinated with other states to ensure the movement of goods into the state without any hindrance.
Mrs. Sultana said that during the meeting it was also decided to approach Finance Department to provide funds to the Transport Department to sustain PUNBUS and PRTC in this hour of crisis as there is no revenue generation activity being executed by the department as a result of Curfew/Lockdown. She said that the meeting also reviewed the different available resources to provide pay to employees of PRTC and Roadways. Likewise review of achievement of revenue targets of the department was carried out.
The Transport Minister said that it was decided in the meeting that during this time of crisis, adequate support would be provided to Stage carriage, Contract Carriage and Goods carriage operators. She instructed the officers of the department to make all possible arrangements to take care of Staff under quarantine. She stressed that good stay and food arrangements be made for the quarantine staff.
