Tree plantation drive along National Highways kickstarts under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav
2080 saplings planted to develop eco-friendly highways: ADC (RD) Amit Kumar Panchal
Ludhiana, July 17, 2022: Under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM), the Let’s Clean Ludhiana Foundation and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Ludhiana on Sunday kick-started a plantation drive along with highways in the district.
Leading the drive at Ladowal Toll Plaza, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Amit Kumar Panchal accompanied by NHAI Project Director KL Sachdeva and Mridula Jain, Chairperson, Let’s Clean Ludhiana Foundation planted saplings at both sides of Ladowal Toll Plaza.
Panchal said that drive was a part of series of events being organized under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) to celebrate 75th years of Country’s Independence in which 2080 saplings were planted on Sunday. He said that this drive was need of the hour to increase the green cover besides ensuring check on the environment pollution.
He said that the district administration was already carrying out a massive plantation drive during this monsoon in the district and asked the people to work shoulder to shoulder with the administration in this cause and plant saplings in their localities.
He also thanked Mridula Jain for planting trees in several parts of Ludhiana.
NHAI Ludhiana Project Director KL Sachdeva said that this drive had been carried out throughout the country to develop eco-friendly highways and said that special efforts would be made to ensure proper upkeep of the saplings.
