"Turning Waste into Wonder” - Best Out of Waste Event Organized by DCSA, Panjab University

The Department of Computer Science and Applications (DCSA) at Panjab University, in collaboration with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan initiative, organized an inspiring "Best Out of Waste" event on Saturday. The event was a joint effort between Dr. Anuj Gupta, the coordinator of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, and Dr. Kavita Taneja, the event coordinator from DCSA, aimed at promoting creativity and environmental awareness among students by encouraging them to transform waste materials into useful and artistic items.

Chandigarh, August 31, 2024: The Department of Computer Science and Applications (DCSA) at Panjab University, in collaboration with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan initiative, organized an inspiring "Best Out of Waste" event on Saturday. The event was a joint effort between Dr. Anuj Gupta, the coordinator of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, and Dr. Kavita Taneja, the event coordinator from DCSA, aimed at promoting creativity and environmental awareness among students by encouraging them to transform waste materials into useful and artistic items.
 
The event began with an introduction to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and its significance, highlighting the importance of waste management and sustainability. The main event saw enthusiastic participation from students, who presented a wide variety of projects made from everyday waste items, showcasing their creativity and commitment to the cause.
 
Participants engaged in a friendly competition where their projects were evaluated based on creativity, innovation, and effective use of waste materials. Highlights included decorative wall art made from discarded CDs, functional lamps crafted from plastic bottles, Wind mill using paper cuttings based on the Principles of Science, Wind chime made from paper cups and threads symbolizing good fortune and good luck for the new students to start their new journey in DCSA and beautiful idols using plastic bottles, newspapers and cardboard, reflecting the student’s ingenuity.
 
Dr. Anuj Sharma, the chairperson of DCSA, delivered an inspiring speech on the significance of sustainable living, emphasizing the need to reduce waste and embrace eco-friendly practices. Dr. Kavita Taneja, also addressed the students, highlighting significance of this event in finding sustainable solution for waste management and to sensitize the students to feel the responsibility towards the environment.
 
The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, recognizing the top projects for their outstanding creativity and innovation. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to all participants and volunteers.
 
This "Best Out of Waste" event at DCSA not only showcased the potential of discarded materials but also inspired participants to adopt sustainable practices, reinforcing the message that creativity can drive change towards a cleaner, greener future.
