Two persons robbed of jewellery worth Rs 2 crore by four robbers in Delhi

Two persons were robbed of jewellery worth Rs 2 crore and other valuables by four persons who threw chilli powder into their eyes in Central Delhi's Paharganj on Wednesday morning. One of the robbers wore a police uniform and they intercepted the victims on the pretext of checking.

New Delhi, Aug 31 (IANS) Two persons were robbed of jewellery worth Rs 2 crore and other valuables by four persons who threw chilli powder into their eyes in Central Delhi's Paharganj on Wednesday morning. One of the robbers wore a police uniform and they intercepted the victims on the pretext of checking.

Initially the police got a call around 4.49 a.m. that two persons threw chilli powder into the eyes of a man and decamped with his valuables. The police reached the spot and found that two persons were robbed by four robbers.

"On enquiry it was found that two persons were having two bags and a box containing jewellery which was to be transported to Chandigarh and Ludhiana. They were intercepted by four persons and robbed. One of the accused was in police uniform. They intercepted them on the pretext of checking. Two came from behind and threw chilli powder in their eyes and snatched the bags and the box," said the police official.

The official said that the estimated value of the jewellery was about Rs 2 crore and the rest of the items' value was being verified as the consignment was received from different places like Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Surat.

A case under sections 392, 394, 34, 506 IPC has been registered.

"We have got strong clues and hopefully it will be worked out very soon," the police said.
