Two Week FDP on Data Science and Scientific Computing: A Learning Journey
The two weeks faculty development program on ‘Data Science and Scientific Computing’ was jointly organized by esteemed institutions; Central University of Punjab Bathinda, India, Poornima University, Jaipur, INDIA, Nexus University, South Africa, Baba Farid College, Bathinda, India, MathTech Thinking Foundation, Fazilka, India. The program aimed to provide the participants with the latest developments and trends in the fields of data science and scientific computing, and to enhance their skills and knowledge in these domains.
Bathinda, January 16,2024: The two weeks faculty development program on ‘Data Science and Scientific Computing’ was jointly organized by esteemed institutions; Central University of Punjab Bathinda, India, Poornima University, Jaipur, INDIA, Nexus University, South Africa, Baba Farid College, Bathinda, India, MathTech Thinking Foundation, Fazilka, India. The program aimed to provide the participants with the latest developments and trends in the fields of data science and scientific computing, and to enhance their skills and knowledge in these domains.
The Data Science and Scientific Computing FDP was an intensive two-week program that provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of data science concepts, scientific computing techniques, and their practical applications. This hands-on FDP focused on empowering participants with the skills and knowledge needed to analyze complex datasets, apply machine learning algorithms, and leverage scientific computing tools for problem-solving. Through a combination of lectures, interactive discussions, coding exercises, and real-world projects, participants gained valuable experience in data manipulation, visualization, statistical analysis, and machine learning. The FDP also delved into advanced topics such as deep learning, natural language processing, and cloud computing, ensuring a well rounded learning experience.

The program consisted of various lectures, workshops, hands-on sessions, and interactive discussions delivered by eminent experts and resource persons from academia and industry. The resource persons of the program were Prof. D. K. Lobiyal of Jawaharlal Nehru University New Delhi, INDIA, Prof. (Dr.) Valentina E. Balas of “Aurel Vlaicu” University of Arad, ROMANIA, Prof. (Dr.) Pooja of Sharda University Uzbekistan, Prof (Dr.) Amandeep Kaur of Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, INDIA, Prof. (Dr.) Ihtiram Raza Khan of Jamia Hamdard University, Delhi, INDIA, Dr. Ajay Khunteta of Poornima University, Jaipur, INDIA, Dr. Ashok Kumar Pathak of Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, Dr. Harmanpreet Singh Kapoor of Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, INDIA, Dr. Prayas Sharma of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow, INDIA, Mr. Harish Kumar Pamnani of Poornima University, Jaipur, INDIA, Dr.Upinder Kaur of Akal University, Bathinda, INDIA, and Dr. Shalu Gupta of Baba Farid College, Bathinda, INDIA.
The program witnessed the participation of approx. 320 attendees including faculty members, researchers and students from various institutions across India and abroad. The participants were actively involved in the program and expressed their appreciation and feedback. The program also provided a platform for the participants, attendees to interact and network with each other and with the resource persons.
During the valedictory session held on Jan 16, 2024, Dr. Mehar Chand from Department of Physics and Mathematics, Baba Farid College, Bathinda and President, MTTF, Fazilka, India, presented the report of the program and highlighted the key takeaways and outcomes of this workshop. Prof. Ramakrishna Wusurika, Dean- In Charge Academics, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, India delivered the valedictory address and congratulated the organizers and the participants for the successful completion of the program. He also emphasized the importance and relevance of data science and scientific computing in the current scenario and encouraged the participants to apply the learnings from the program in their respective fields.
Dr. Swati, Dean International Relation Poornima University, Jaipur, INDIA, Ms Kgomotso Morotolo, President Nexus University, South Africa, and Dr. Zaved Ahmed Khan, Dean Basic Sciences, Baba Farid College, Bathinda also addressed the gathering and appreciated the efforts and initiatives of the organizers and the resource persons. They also expressed their interest and willingness to collaborate and partner with the organizing institutions for future programs and projects. Dr. Deep Singh, Head of Department of mathematics and statistics, central university of Punjab, Bathinda, India proposed the vote of thanks and acknowledged the support and contribution of all the stakeholders involved in the program. He also thanked the participants for their enthusiasm and participation and wished them all the best for their future endeavors.
The program ended with the distribution of certificates and mementos to the participants and the resource persons.
