Udaan- LGBT ramp walk ends on a high note at Panjab University

A glimpse of Udaan fashion show organised at Panjab University, Chandigarh on Thursday.

Chandigarh: ‘Udaan’- The first ever LGBT fashion show in the region organised by Chandigarh State AIDS Prevention and Control Societies (CSACS) in collaboration with University Institute of Fashion Technology (UIFT) and Centre for Social Work (CSW), Panjab University concluded on a high note at Emerging Areas Building lawns (PU) on Thursday evening.

20 models from the LGBT community walked the ramp with high confidence showcasing 12 collections of ace national level designers, alumni of UIFT and BSc 6th semester students.

Justice Nirmaljit Kaur of Punjab and Haryana High Court was the Chief Guest at the occasion.

"The show was a grand success and we are glad such an idea was floated by the CSACS,” said Dr. Prabhdip Brar, Chairperson UIFT and ‘Udaan’ Co-ordinator.“This show is bound to send a positive message to the LGBT community who are now a part of our education system too,” added Dr. Monica Munjal, Chairperson, Centre for Social Work, Panjab
University.

Dr. Gaurav Gaur, Co-coordinator- ‘Udaan’ and Dr. Vanita Gupta, Project Director, CSACS were among those present at the occasion.

The collections included those of Siddhartha Bansal, a leading designer from New Delhi, ‘Sohni’ by Sohni Makkar (Chandigarh), ‘Blush’ by Aman Sidhu and Nidhi Bajaj (Chandigarh), Honney Sandhu (Chandigarh), Babi Grewal (Chandigarh). In addition to these, the models wore outfits designed by alumni of UIFT- Ms. Alpa (Faculty at
GGDSD College Sector 32), Ms. Karminder who showcased two collections on the ramp- one comprising an evening party collection and another comprising bohemian fashion and another alumnus of the department Ms.Anu Rani lent her ‘tie and dye’ outfits for the show. An interesting collection by BSc 6th semester students of UIFT and of a UIFT research
scholar Ms. Jasleen was inspired by the concept of ‘refurbishing’ and the outfits were based on ‘best out of the worn out clothes’ concept.
