UIET Team bags 1st prize of Rs 3 lakh in Deloitte TechnoUtsav
The competition started in February 2020 with a basic aptitude test
Chandigarh: A team comprising of 3 students namely Rajat Jain, Namanpreet Singh and Sarthak Gupta of B.E. Information Technology Final Year of University Institute of Engineering and Technology(UIET), Panjab University, Chandigarh won the 1st prize of Rs. 3 lakh in National Level Collegiate Cyber Threat Competition (CCTC) 2020 conducted at Deloitte TechnoUtsav. The results were declared on 15th September in a virtual event. The students also secured Pre-Placement Offers from Deloitte USI (Offices of the US).
The competition started in February 2020 with a basic aptitude test in which around 20,000 students from more than 100 different prestigious Indian colleges participated. After clearing initial round, the students formed a team UIET Chandigarh_Cybersec since they all had keen interest in cyber security. There were around 550 shortlisted teams in CCTC 2020. The next round tested the subjective knowledge of students in cybersecurity. 145 teams cleared this round. The next round was a 16 day long challenge in which everyday 5-6 problems were given to be solved in 24 hours. The challenge was to capture the flag based on cyber security which required knowledge of technology and tools. Due to lockdown, all rounds were online. UIET Chandigarh_Cybersec reached the finale round. UIET Chandigarh_Cybersec was part of 13 teams in the finale. Final challenge was to solve multiple problems with strict time constraints and difficulty level within duration of 9 hours.
The department of Information Technology at UIET has several students, research scholars and faculty members working in the area of cybersecurity under the mentorship of Prof. Krishan Kumar, Co-ordinator (IT), and leadership of Prof. Savita Gupta, Director, UIET.
