UIPS Scholar and Mentor win Pharminnova Award 2023-24
Chandigarh May 9, 2024: Tuhin Subhra Dutta of the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University, Chandigarh has bagged the “PharmaInnova Award 2023-24” instituted by the Rajni bhai V Patel Trust under the patronage of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. His Master’s thesis has emerged as the most innovative in Pharmaceutical Chemistry subject in the M.Pharm category of Rajni bhai V Patel PharmInnova Award competition 2023-24. He will be awarded with PharmInnova Trophy & monetary prize of Rs.1,00,000/- and his mentor Professor Ranju Bansal will also be felicitated with a certificate & monetary prize of Rs. 50,000/. During his Master’s work,Tuhin worked on the Development of new molecules for the treatment of Parkinson’s Disease under the expert guidance of Prof. Ranju Bansal. Currently, he is employed in a Big-4 consulting firm as a management consultant in the healthcare arena.
Prof. Ranju has been actively involved in research on the development of novel medicinally active compounds for the treatment of neurological disorders like Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease for more than a decade. This is her second award by the trust, Earlier her PhD student Dr Ranjit Singh received PharmInnova Award 2019 for Best Thesis in Pharmaceutical Chemistry. Recently she has received funding to the tune of 60 lacs by ICMR to continue her research in this direction. She has published more than 100 original research papers in various international journals of repute and has 5 patents to her credit. Rajnibhai V Patel Trust instituted the “PharmInnova Award - Best Thesis in Pharmaceutical Sciences” to encourage innovative thinking amongst students. Both mentor and student are invited for the prestigious award ceremony to be held in October this year.
