Union Education Minister, Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal inaugurated establishment ceremony of ‘Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’ Chair at LPU
Chief Guest Dr Pokhriyal unveiled the launching plaque virtually at LPU stage as well as physically at Ministry of Education office simultaneously
Jalandhar: Commemorating the 551st birthday of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Lovely Professional University (LPU) established a Chair in the name of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, today, at its campus. Hon’ble Education Minister, Government of India, Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ inaugurated the installing ceremony as Chief Guest of the day. Dr Pokhriyal unveiled the launching plaque virtually on LPU stage as well as physically at Ministry of Education office, simultaneously. Established chair’ at LPU is for studies in global peace and equality. In addition to thousands of LPU student and faculties, the event reached out to millions of viewers across the globe as the proceedings were live streamed on various platforms including YouTube and Facebook.
Addressing LPU staff members and students, Hon’ble Education Minister Dr Pokhriyal shared: “Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji was a Guru, Pir and Prophet not only of Sikhs, but of world. He is the common Guru of all. Baba Nanak Ji, through his teachings, ideas and BANI, gave the message of unity to the whole world.” Mr Minister highlighted that the Chair established at LPU will be useful in promoting peace and harmony in the world. Appreciating all endeavours and achievements in the fields of technology and sciences, in particular, at LPU, Dr Pokhriyal mentioned: “When the whole world is going through a catastrophe of the corona epidemic, even in such testing times, LPU remained involved in innovating corona specific instruments and has gained many successes in this direction. Thus, LPU is constantly on the path of social welfare along with education.”
The auspicious day also witnessed release ceremony of English version of the book ‘Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’, which is authored by Education Minister Dr ‘Nishank’. Guest of Honour, the High Commissioner of Malta, His Excellency Mr Reuben Gauci released the book. Punjab Cabinet Minister of "Technical Education & Industrial Training" Charanjit Singh Channi presided over the ceremony.
In the inaugural address of the ‘Ceremony’, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal thanked Hon’ble Minister and other guests for sparing their valuable time for a noble cause favouring the global community. He applauded the endeavours of the Ministry of Education for marvellous works done in the fields of new education policy and reforms. Mr Mittal also emphasized that Guru Nanak Dev Ji always preached and propagated peace, justice, equality, global harmony, and he was Guru of not only Sikhism but of whole world. He added that the Chair will be favourable to all across the globe.
On this unique occasion of ‘International Seminar on Peace, Justice and Global Harmony at LPU, keynote addresses were also made by renowned international scholars including, Mr Martin Singh who is a Canadian converted to Sikhism; and, Director Global Institute of Sikh Studies New York USA Dr Gurinder Mann.
The installed ‘Chair’ is entrusted with conducting research on the life and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Punjab Government has offered this prestigious Chair to LPU along with selected few other national and international universities, as the 551st birthday of the Guru Ji falls in this year. /(December 18, 2020)
