US Congressional Delegation arrives in Dharamshala for Meeting with Dalai Lama

A US Congressional Delegation (US CODEL) led by Rep. Michael McCaul, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, arrived at Gaggal Airport in Dharamsala this evening. 

US Congressional Delegation arrives in Dharamshala for Meeting with Dalai Lama

Dharamshala, June 18, 2024: A US Congressional Delegation (US CODEL) led by Rep. Michael McCaul, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, arrived at Gaggal Airport in Dharamsala this evening. 

The delegation consists of seven prominent US congressional members: Michael McCaul, Nancy Pelosi (Speaker Emerita), Mariannette Miller-Meeks, Gregory Meeks (Ranking Member, House Foreign Affairs Committee), Nicole Malliotakis, Jim McGovern, and Ami Bera.

Upon their arrival, Rep. Michael McCaul expressed enthusiasm about the visit, stating, "We are excited to meet His Holiness the Dalai Lama and to talk about many things including the bill which passed by congress basically says that the United States of America stands with the people of Tibet."

High-level officials from the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), including Dolma Tsering, the Exile Tibetan Minister for the Department of Information and International Relations, greeted the delegation at the airport.

The delegation is on a two-day visit, scheduled for June 18 and 19, 2024. Tomorrow morning, they will meet with the Tibetan spiritual leader, the 14th Dalai Lama.
