The US Embassy, USPTO, South-east Asia office, celebrated World Intellectual Property Day 2023 with the theme “Women and IP: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity”, by leading a social media campaign called “The Value of Her IP.”
Chandigarh, April 26, 2023: The US Embassy, USPTO, South-east Asia office, celebrated World Intellectual Property Day 2023 with the theme “Women and IP: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity”, by leading a social media campaign called “The Value of Her IP.”
Dr Indu Pal Kaur, Professor and Chairperson, University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Panjab University, Chandigarh was selected as one of the three women identified by the USPTO- India. The social media post describes the ‘equation’ that makes up the value of such woman. ‘Equation’ includes her story of innovation and creativity and includes her “value factors” (relatable to general public and consumers) that went into creating and commercializing her intellectual property.
In the words of Prof Kaur consistent persistence, continuously challenging herself beyond her comfort zone, and the desire to address issues of poor bio performance of and compliance to available drug molecules are her driving features.
She refashions existing molecules using novel drug delivery technology to address their solubility, bioavailability, stability by toxicity issues. Her dream is to translate these novel technologies to the Industry for patient use.
She demonstrates that grit, courage and belief in yourself can pave the way to success.
She attributes her success to her continuously excelling Institute UIPS, her teachers, faculty colleagues at UIPS and above all her team of M Pharm and Ph D students who are her actual Intellectual Property.
She also acknowledges wonderful mentors she met during her journey including Dr J V Yakhmi, former director BARC, Mumbai.
