Chandigarh, February 13, 2025: The Department of Microbial Biotechnology, Panjab University, Chandigarh, today hosted International Seminar and Scientific Interaction on “Bacterial Biofilms and Pathogenesis: In Vitro, Mouse, and Human-Mimic Models” by Leading Microbiologist Prof. Rajendra Deora, Ohio State University, USA.
Prof. Deora discussed the infection caused by Bordetella pertussis, a contagious and dangerous bacterial pathogen, which is on the rise despite vaccination. His talk focused on various aspects of biofilm formation in Bordetella and advancements in immunisation. He highlighted the evolution of pertussis vaccines, the role Bordetella polysaccharide (Bps) in promoting antimicrobial resistance as well as colonisation, and the potential of Bps as a novel vaccine candidate.
Chairperson of the department, Dr. Rachna Singh informed the seminar also covered the use of mouse models and human-mimic models for a better understanding of this infection. The international seminar was attended by students and faculty from Panjab University and neighbouring institutes.
