Ludhiana: Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Friday said that vaccination, correct and complete information to the people regarding deadly disease are weapons against the war against the Covid-19 pandemic to prevent the third wave.
After virtually launching a YouTube channel of CityNeeds NGO, the Deputy Commissioner appealed to everyone to get themselves vaccinated at the earliest. He told that the vaccine not only protects your lives but reduces chances of hospitalization even if one contracts the virus after vaccination. He said that aggressive participation by people in the vaccination drive would build herd immunity and would help to prevent the third wave of infectious disease.
He said that correct and complete information about symptoms and Covid apt behaviour to the people is crucial to stem the spread. The Deputy Commissioner said that rumours, myths or misinformation about vaccine and pandemic are being dealt with strictly by the administration by the officials who are visiting daily to motivate the people for vaccination and early testing.
Municipal Councillor Mamta Ashu exhorted the youth to come forward and shoulder the responsibility of educating the rural folks about the importance of Covid apt behaviour and vaccination.
She said that some people are still negligent towards masking, social distancing and other protocols and asked the police department to take strict action against them.
Dr Bishav Mohan as the moderator asked the questions of people to the Deputy Commissioner, Municipal Councillor and other experts.
Dr SB Pandhi from CityNeeds NGO said that the YouTube channel has more than 200 videos of 2 minutes by 36 prominent doctors of DMC, CMC, Civil hospital and Fortis Hospital addressing most commonly asked questions about COVID. He said that the objective is to provide a platform for authentic information and guidance about COVID prevention, treatment and preparation for the anticipated 3rd wave.
Maneet Dewan said that this content will be spread to rural Punjab and urban students once the lock down is relaxed. We need to build a community of young volunteers who will use this content to educate people around them and monitor the activities.
