Jalandhar, November 18, 2024: The Vajra Punjab Hockey League 2024 – Season I commenced with a grand opening ceremony on today, at the Katoch Astroturf Stadium, Jalandhar Cantt. The inaugural event, held under the aegis of Vajra Corps, marked a significant milestone in promoting sports, healthy lifestyles, and social awareness across Punjab. The ceremony was graced by Maj Gen Atul Bhadauria, VSM COS Vajra Corps, who officially inaugurated the tournament with the ceremonial rolling of the ball. A total of 16 teams will be participating in the tournament this season which will be conducted on a knockout basis. The opening match that followed the opening ceremony set the competitive tone for the tournament and was keenly contested by both teams.
The opening ceremony also captivated the audience present with an array of vibrant cultural performances, that included the traditional Bhangra, Gidda and Rajasthani Folk dances by students of various Army schools and colleges in Jalandhar.
The event is an endeavour by the Vajra Corps and Indian Army to not only promote Hockey as a sport but also increase the awareness about the illeffects of drugs among the youth of Punjab.
Vajra corps has initiated this league as part of Army's vision & mission to serve the Nation while promoting a drug- free, health-conscious society & encourage the youth of Punjab to join the Indian Army.
The league matches and qualifiers shall be played in the coming week and will culminate with the Grand Finale on 23 Nov 24. The Vajra Punjab Hockey League 2024 – Season I promises a week filled with thrilling matches and community involvement, building a legacy of sports and positive social change in the region.
