Valedictory function held to mark culmination of National Nutrition Month 2024

Department of Zoology & Botany and Grievances Redressal Cell at Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar held a valedictory function on 7 October, to mark the culmination of the National Nutrition Month 2024 which was organised by the department.

Jalandhar, October 23, 2024: Department of Zoology & Botany and Grievances Redressal Cell at Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar held a valedictory function on 7 October, to mark the culmination of the National Nutrition Month 2024 which was organised by the department. 

The highlight of the event was an expert talk by Dr. Surjit Singh Senior Medical Officer Civil Hospital Jalandhar on the topic “Nutrition for a healthy heart”. The speaker was welcomed by the Principal Dr Jaspal Singh along with Professor Jasreen Kaur, Professor Navdeep Kaur and Dr Gagandeep Kaur by presenting a memento. 

Dr Jaspal Singh highlighted that nutrition played a very critical role in maintaining a healthy body and mind and exhorted the students to listen and interact with the speaker to gain maximum benefit from the talk. Dr Surjit Singh, an expert on preventive healthcare emphasized the importance of nutrition in maintaining a healthy heart. He highlighted the growing prevalence of cardiovascular diseases and emphasized the critical role that a balanced diet plays in the prevention and management of heart related diseases. He urged all for adopting healthy dietary habits including consumption of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and good fats while minimising fast food and high salt intake. 

An interactive session with students and faculty engaged Dr Surjit Singh in a fruitful discussion seeking his insights on maintaining healthy lifestyle especially in light of today's sedentary life style and work pressure. Practical tips on maintaining proper health for a healthy heart left the audience with an understanding of our lifestyle choices that directly affect heart health. 

The valedictory function marked the conclusion of a series of lectures, presentations and fitness sessions by Dr Gagandeep Kaur, Dr Upma Arora, Dr Heminder Singh and Prof Surbjit Singh aimed at promoting health awareness and well being among the students in addition to various activities and a month long exhibition on nutrition. 

The Principal Dr Jaspal Singh expressed his gratitude to Dr Sujit Singh for his invaluable contribution and also lauded the efforts by the Department of Zoology and Botany for organising such educational and enriching events. Students who participated in various activities during the month like poster making, slogan writing and other allied events were awarded certificates. 

The event was conducted by Dr Upma Arora and witnessed enthusiastic participation by heads, faculty and students from different departments making it a grand success.
