Vardhman Textiles steps-up to help a Paralympic star shine
Akash hails from Jalandhar, Punjab
Ludhiana: Vardhman Textiles took another progressive step in the direction of strengthening National Sports by funding the up-gradation of artificial limbs for a differently-abled rising sports star. A financial grant of rupees three lacs has been provided to Mr Akash Mehra for upgrading his artificial legs so that he can participate in Blade Long Jump event. The cheque was handed over to him by Mr D K Sindwani, Director, Vardhman Textiles who appreciated the spirit and courage with which Akash is marching forward to make the country proud.
Mr Akash Mehra, who had lost both his legs in a tragic train accident at a very young age is a source of inspiration for everyone as he speaks of focus and goal-orientation. “Feeling sorry will not help, but trying will. I am excited about starting my training after I get the upgraded limbs and am grateful to Vardhman for having supported me” says Akash.
Akash hails from Jalandhar, Punjab. He has represented India at National and International Platforms including Asian Youth Para Games 2017, Indian Open Para Athletics Championship 2018, Khel Mahakumbh 2019 and 19th National Para Athletics Championship 2021. He wishes to represent the nation at upcoming Asian Games and Para Olympics. A hockey player in his initial years, in the para games, he plays Javelin Throw and aspires to play Blade Long Jump as well.
