The acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a life-threatening condition caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The HIV virus attacks the immune system of the patient and reduces its resistance to other diseases.
Ludhiana, December 1, 2022: December 1st is observed as World AIDS Day. Various activities were conducted in DMCH to raise awareness on AIDS. This year's theme for World AIDS Day is “Equalise”. Prem Kumar Gupta, Secretary, DMCH Managing Society, said that people suffering from HIV should be counseled so that their life becomes easier. Initiatives like these are of utmost importance.
Dr Sandeep Puri, Principal, DMCH said that DMCH has a dedicated Counseling and Testing Centre (ICTC) and ART centre with provision of government aid for treatment and medicines for HIV patients.
Dr. Veenu Gupta, Professor and Head Microbiology, DMCH, conducted an awareness session in DMCH College of Nursing for BSc Nursing students. The dept has also taken an initiative to give an awareness talk in Punjab Agricultural University to cover a wider range of youngsters from all fields of life.
Students of MBBS 2nd Prof. were engaged in a Role Play on how to deal with patients in clinical scenarios related to HIV/AIDS. Archit Sood, Harjas Sahota and Divij Matta were winners of the quiz competition.
Speaking on the occasion Dr HS Dhooria, Professor, Medicine and Dr Dinesh Jain, Professor, Medicine, emphasized the need to provide equal opportunity for treatment and a normal life to people suffering from AIDS.
