VB arrests BDPO for taking Rs 30,000 bribe
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state on Wednesday, has arrested Gurmukh Singh, Block Development and Panchayats Officer (BDPO), Pakhowal, Ludhiana district for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000.
Chandigarh April 12, 2024 - The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state on Wednesday, has arrested Gurmukh Singh, Block Development and Panchayats Officer (BDPO), Pakhowal, Ludhiana district for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned panchayats officer have been arrested on a complaint lodged by Paramjit Singh, Panchayat Secretary, posted at block Pakhowal, Ludhiana.
He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the said officer has been demanding a bribe of Rs 3,5000 for issuing his salary along with three other panchayat secretaries working in the said office. Now they have collected Rs 30,000 by making contribution but didn't want to pay the bribe.
The spokesperson informed that after a preliminary inquiry about this complaint, a VB team laid a trap in which accused BDPO has been arrested red handed while he was accepting a bribe money of Rs 30000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow. Further investigation into this case was under progress, he said.
