Ludhiana, May 14, 2019: The Economic Offences Wing of Vigilance Bureau Ludhiana team led by DSP Ramandeep Singh Bhullar today caught an ETO named Amardeep Singh Nanda red handed while accepting bribe of Rs 50,000.

While providing information, Paramjit Singh Virk, SSP, Economic Offences Wing, Vigilance Bureau Punjab, Ludhiana, stated that one Umesh Kumar, a resident of Ludhiana owns a business of cloth & thread trading. Umesh’s uncle (taya) and grandfather are directors in a firm named Umesh Spinning Pvt Ltd, and Umesh manages this firm.

The SSP informed that last year before the festival of Diwali, ETO Amardeep Singh Nanda had cancelled this firm’s GST number. He informed that although Umesh had presented all documentation in this regard, but he could not convince the ETO. Umesh Kumar filed an appeal against this order of the ETO with GST DTC Patiala, after which the District Taxation Commissioner issued a notice to both the parties to present their case.

He informed that Umesh also runs another firm named Jal Dhara Cot Spin Pvt Ltd at Budhewal near Kohara. No manufacturing has taken place in this particular firm for some time, and ETO Amardeep Singh Nanda also issued a notice to cancel the GST number of this firm as well. Few days back, Umesh met ETO Nanda regarding this notice and requested him to find a solution to the matter. The SSP informed that the ETO demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 from Umesh Kumar in lieu of this work.

The SSP stated that as the complainant did not want to pay bribe in lieu of the work, he approached the Economic Offences wing of VB Ludhiana. After Umesh’s statement, a case number 8 dated 14-05-2019 under section 7 Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 and Amended 2018 was registered against the ETO. It was a team led by DSP Ramandeep Singh Bhullar, which laid a trap and caught ETO Amardeep Singh Nanda red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 in the presence of government witnesses Jatinder Mohan Bhandari, SDO, PSPCL and Parminder Singh JE, Punjab Mandi Board, from Office Sales Tax Division-3.
