Chandigarh, January 10, 2013: State Vigilance Bureau has put up its best efforts to eradicate corruption amongst public servants and others in every sphere during the year 2012 and registered 81 different vigilance cases in the State. Besides this out of 3,249 complaints received by the bureau, 2120 were transferred to the concerned departments of the suspecting officials, 754 to Director General of Police and 167 were being investigated by the bureau itself.

Disclosing this here today, Sursh Arora, Chief Director-cum-DGP Vigilance Bureau Punjab said that vigilance has arrested six gazetted officers, 32 non-gazetted officers and six private persons red handed in 38 various corruption cases during the last year. Giving details he further said that vigilance has received 3201 written and 48 online complaints which were related to Revenue, Panchayats, Local Bodies, Health, Irrigation, Electricity, Food and Civil Supplies departments.

He added that Bureau has stepped up its drive against corruption by launching a special portal www.vigilancebureaupunjab.org and a toll free number (1800-1800-1000) to enable public to register their complaints of corruption online, email or through toll free number.

Vigilance Chief said that an online NRI Help desk for NRI community have also been set up to lodge and check the status of a complaint online. He informed that the Bureau has taken new strides in the fight against corruption by launching awareness drives, creating Internal Vigilance Cell and Special Unit for checking its own staff etc.

Arora further informed that Vigilance Bureau has also put up information boards and banners at the important public places for publicizing the website and the toll free number.  "This will help in spreading awareness about the website of Vigilance Bureau, increase accessibility to the common public, provide an online platform for citizen interface & also improve the grievance redressal machinery. The Bureau solicits active co-operation and suggestions from the people of Punjab and also the NRIs settled abroad" he added.
