Vet varsity organises Mega Blood Donation Camp
Remembering the unparalleled Martyrdom of Sahibzada Fateh Singh and Sahibzada Zorawar Singh, the Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle (GGSSC), unit of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized a ‘Mega Blood Donation Camp’ in collaboration with DMC & Hospital, Ludhiana'.
Ludhiana, January 9, 2024: Remembering the unparalleled Martyrdom of Sahibzada Fateh Singh and Sahibzada Zorawar Singh, the Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle (GGSSC), unit of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized a ‘Mega Blood Donation Camp’ in collaboration with DMC & Hospital, Ludhiana'.
About 80 units of blood were donated by students, faculty members and staff of various colleges of the University. Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor inaugurated the blood donation camp. He said that the true message of serving the society has been spread with this blood donation camp as it is the noblest way of serving humanity beyond barriers of religion, caste and creed. Most important aspect is that there is no alternative to blood in case of need. He expressed his views that donation of blood is another kind of ‘SEWA’ which caters to the needy persons in critical emergencies. He praised all the participants who donated blood voluntarily. While encouraging the efforts by GGSSC, he suggested that such blood donation camps should be a regular event annually to inculcate a sense of selfless and true service to the society.
Dr. Sarvpreet Singh Ghuman, Director Students' Welfare of the University described blood donors as the real heroes, as they play a key role in helping people in need. Dr. Jaspal Singh Hundal, President and Dr. Prabjeet Singh, General Secretary of GGSS circle, Vet Varsity Unit, encouraged the youth to participate in large numbers and emphasized that the youth’s energy should be channelized in a positive manner and donating blood is the best way to pay back to the society.Active student volunteers of GGSSC i.e Jujhar Singh, Sehajbir Singh, Lagan Verma, Simranjit Kaur not only motivated the fellow students but also played an instrumental role in organizing this mega donation camp. The blood was collected by the team of DMC&H, Ludhiana staff led by Dr. Jannet Mary John and Dr. Shria Thakural. Dr. Jannet Mary John highlighted that blood donation refreshes the body system to synthesize new RBCs, reduces risk of heart attack and liver ailments, lowers cholesterol and even slows down ageing and more importantly people come to know of any kind of prevalent disease in the body. Office bearers of GGSSC, officers and faculty of the University were also present on the occasion.
