Ludhiana, July 30, 2024: Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized method demonstration and input distribution camp on importance of trace mineral feeding in dairy animals at village Hamidi, district Barnala, under Farmer FIRST Project sponsored by ICAR. Trace minerals include iron, manganese, copper, iodine, zinc, cobalt, fluoride and selenium.

The project is working under the guidance and supervision of Dr. P. S. Brar, Director of Extension Education and Nodal Officer of Farmer FIRST Project. Dr. Parminder Singh, Principal Investigator of the project informed the beneficiary farmers about the importance and uses of trace minerals feeding. Dr. Ram Chand, Former ADG, ICAR, also participated in this innovative outlook. Dr. Amandeep Singh, Co-PI of the project team, organized the event and conducted the training program with the total participation of 25 beneficiary farmers belonging to the operational area.

Dr. Parminder Singh highlighted the role of trace minerals in enhancing animal productivity. While addressing the farmers, he stated that these are helpful in achieving optimal production and reproduction along with maintaining normal physiology in livestock. He also highlighted the role of trace minerals in prevention of various diseases, predominantly mastitis.

Dr. Amandeep Singh emphasized on strengthening the udder health and made the farmers aware about the good animal husbandry practices like cleanliness of the farmer, animals and the surroundings to ensure good health of the animal.
Dr. Ram Chand interacted with the farmers and urged them to adopt the latest technologies supplied to them in the project. He motivated the farmers to develop a sustainable farming system to ensure economic profitability.

Trace mineral packets were distributed among the beneficiary farmers and the overall response of the farmers was very satisfactory.
