Vet Varsity Pathologists win laurels at Anand conference
Ludhiana, November 21, 2014: Senior Pathologists from Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University participated in the 31st Annual Conference of  Indian Association of Veterinary Pathologists  (IAVP) and National Symposium on ‘Impact of Climate change on Pathobiology of Diseases of Animals, Poultry and Fish’ organized by the Anand Agricultural University, Gujarat, India. They bagged three prestigious National Awards.  Dr Naresh Kumar Sood, Senior Veterinary Pathologist and Incharge Centralised Diagnostic Laboratory of Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex was conferred ‘Best Farm Animal Pathologist Award’ for outstanding research on diseases of various farm animal species. Dr C K Singh, Senior Veterinary Pathologist was declared winner of ‘Fellowship of Indian Association of Veterinary Pathologists’ for the year 2014 for his outstanding achievements in Veterinary Pathology.  Dr Pranoti Sharma, Master’s student of Veterinary Pathology bagged the ‘Young Scientist Award’ for best oral research paper presentation entitled ‘Least Invasive Ante-mortem Diagnostic Approaches for Rabies’  co-authored by Dr C K Singh, Dr. D. Narang, Dr N K Sood,  Dr B S Sandhu, Dr. K Gupta and Dr. Apminder Pal Singh  Brar.  During the congregation, Dr N K Sood presented a lead paper on the emerging issue of ‘Diagnostic Cytology of Peritoneal Fluid in Bovines’ and Dr Amarjit Singh on ‘Recent Advances in Diagnosis of Bovine Tuberculosis’. Dr N K Sood co-chaired a session on Animal Oncology and Dr Amarjit Singh acted as rapporteur in the session on Bovine Diseases. Dr. B S Sandhu and Dr APS Brar presented research papers on Rabies and Bovine Calf Diarrhea, respectively, which were highly appreciated. Three Ph.D and two MVSc students also attended the conference and presented research papers on important diseases of animals. The symposium discussed the current concerns on climate change vis a vis emerging animal disease patterns and their zoonotic significance.
