Jalandhar: The Vice-President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu, has announced the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) 2020, where Lovely Professional University (LPU) has been declared in top Category ‘Band A’ of Ranking 6th to 25th. Thus, in this Education Ministry’s annual Innovation Rankings of the country, LPU has been included among top 25 institutes in India. Here, LPU stands uniquely tall amid a total of 674 Institutions which took part in the rankings from throughout the country. Feeling more responsibility with this prestigious ranking, LPU Chancellor Ashok Mittal holds: “LPU will keep on striving hard for making India ‘Vishv Guru’ again.” Noteworthy, LPU already has many other national & international prestigious rankings to its credit including NIRF Ranking.
This ranking is an initiative launched by the Ministry of Education (MoE) and implemented by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Ministry’s Innovation Cell, Government of India. Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, rankings were released virtually, in the presence of Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and other related top ranks.
Congratulating all at LPU, Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal invoked faculty, staff and students to be more prepared to scale further heights in the regularly changing and demanding educational sector. Taking instance of the present virtual education dissemination, he further encouraged all to be ready and up to the expectations of global society.
Aiming to promote innovation among Indian educational institutions, ARIIA ranking assesses universities and institutions on criteria ranging from support for entrepreneurship development; innovative learning method; intellectual property generation; technology transfer, and its commercialization among certain other aspects. Thus, the indicators that were used for ranking are related to ‘Innovation, Startup and Entrepreneurship Development’ amongst students and faculty of respective institutions.
In fact, “ARIIA 2020” rankings has six rank-awarding categories. Five categories are Centrally Funded Institutions, State-funded universities, State-funded autonomous institutions, Private or Deemed Universities and Private Institutions. The sixth special category includes higher education institutions for women only to encourage women and bring gender parity in the areas of innovation and entrepreneurship. In its own Self-finance/Private Institutions Category: Bands for Sub Categories 4; Private or Self-Financed Universities, LPU is included in Band A with universities ranking from 6th to 25th alphabetically.
